Cuspicephalus scarfi was a Jurassic Pterosaur that flew over the shallow seas that would become Kimmeridge bay, over 150 million years ago. Discovered on the Dorset Jurassic coast by Steve Etches. Professor Dave Martill of Portsmouth University & Steve Etches described this new find in a scientific paper. This specimen was named after the renowned satirical cartoonist Gerald Scarfe. Scarfe’s ‘Torydactyl’ was a political commentary and cartoon depicting Margaret Thatcher and use of the image was donated by Gerald Scarfe to raise funds in support of The Etches museum.
